I think that the majority of you will agree, that finding balance in your life is an ideal that we aspire to. What that means to each individual may differ, and I fully believe that no two individuals ideas of 'balance' will amount to the same things. Yet whilst that may be, balance is now commonly known within society as a key to bringing you happiness in your life.
It’s been on my mind lately as I’ve found myself falling (gracefully I may say) in and out of balance on a weekly basis. And therefore in and out of conscious happiness. One week I will feel on top of the world, grateful for all of the small things, in amazement at all the big things! But the next week I’ll feel anxious and frazzled with too much (or too little) work, not enough time to chill out or work out, and having no creative projects on the horizon. Finding this so called 'balance' is difficult, and what I think is important to remember, is that it really is a constant balancing act. It’s not a destination that we reach, where upon arrival you can check into the ‘balance’ hotel, receive our tokens for winning and spend the rest of your life lying on a well balanced deckchair soaking up the sun. It’s a journey through which we are constantly exploring what we need, and want, in our lives that creates our happiness - and in what quantities we need it. Manipulating and directing our lives to change and adapt to fit it all in - in a nice neat little package… Now wouldn’t that just be lovely!
Yet, knowing that there’s no end point to finding your balance makes me happy. Maybe it’s the commitment-phobe coming out within me, but I like the idea of exploring this journey we call life, knowing that my key to happiness is liable to change, just as often as I do. And whilst snowboarding and travelling, yoga and sewing, tea and cake, sunny days and cold air, make me happy at this stage in my life – this no doubt will all change. Of course, I imagine tea and cake will always make me happy, but I’m open to the possibility that that too could change!
So embrace the journey to finding your balance - it’s going to be your biggest adventure yet.
